项目摘要

本研究は、現代ネパールにおける少数民族言語話者の生活世界の変容を、リテラシー実践を事例として、近年緊密化しつつあるグローカルな「農村―都市―海外」ネットワークの中で理解することを目的とする。農村地域のタマン人コミュニティでは、NGOや民族運動団体との繋がりが強化されるにつれて、文字を使用した日常的実践の重要性が増してきた。1990年の民主化以降には、国内外を問わず様々な団体の活動が自由化されたことで、それ以前から実施されていた政府や開発援助団体による農村部での識字教室の開催に加え、民族や宗教アイデンティティと結びつけられた識字教育プログラムも実施されてきた。本研究では、農村地域の人々の日常生活における文字使用場面に着目し、リテラシー実践を事例として、共同体の社会関係の変容を明らかにすることを目指す。前述の目的を達成するために、昨年に引き続き、首都カトマンズ近郊の農村地域であるカブレ郡での現地調査をおこなった。具体的には、6月から12月までの半年間当該地域に滞在し、主に①日常生活における文字使用場面、②特定世帯の生計維持活動や収支状況、③識字教室の学習者女性の個人的な文書、に関する情報を渉猟した。そして、女性たちの社会的役割と家庭内における役割に関する把握につとめ、農村地域のジェンダーとタマン人コミュニティにおける共同性の関係について分析する視座を得た。こうした現地調査から得られた内容に関して、国内のヒマーラヤ地域を対象とする研究者が集う研究会において研究報告をおこない、調査結果のとりまとめと分析方法の洗練に務めるとともに、貴重なフィードバックを得た。また、他大学や高校での講演といったアウトリーチ活動もおこない、研究成果の社会還元にも積極的に取り組んだ。
