英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This will be a multi-center, parallel arm, randomized controlled trial among 130 African-American women with hypertension (systolic/diastolic blood pressure [B/P] greater then or equal to 140/90mmHg or currently taking anti-hypertensive medications). The primary aim of the proposed randomized, controlled trial is to determine the BP lowering effect of 12 weeks of aerobic exercise among African-American women with established hypertension. The secondary aim of this study is to test whether 12 weeks of aerobic exercise improves the levels of the following cardiovascular disease risk factors among African-American women with hypertension: total cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoprotein (HDL and LDL) levels, serum glucose and insulin.
