This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of the current proposal is to examine those developmental factors that are associated with use of microbicide-like formulations among adolescent girls. Adolescent development, within the areas of biological development, cognition and decision-making, psychosexual maturation and socio-cultural context, may have an impact on microbicide acceptance and use. The present study will enroll 225 girls, ages 14 to 21 to participate in the study. These girls will refer male partners, ages 14 and older, and it is anticipated that 40-60 will agree to participate.
