B-cell apoptosis is a well-recognized process in the development of Type I diabetes and growing evidence suggests that the progressive b-cell dysfunction in TypeII diabetes. Recent reports also indicated that ER stress-induced apoptosis contributes to B-cell loss in diabetes. These findings indicate that iPLA2B participates in ER-stress induced apoptosis, a pathway that promotes b-cell death in diabetes.
