This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Impulsivity (the inability to withhold a response) is an important characteristic of many psychiatric disorders including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Impulsivity can be measured in many ways including by paper and pencil rating scales, by structured clinical interview, and on cognitive tests in a laboratory. However, it is unknown if these different ways of measuring impulsivity are measuring the same thing, and/or if the way a person scores on one measure of impulsivity is related to how they will score on other measures of impulsivity. The goal of this study is to examine the relationship between multiple measures of impulsivity including a structured clinical interview, paper and pencil rating scales, and cognitive tasks. The results from this study will help to understand impulsivity and how it is related to disorders such as ADHD.
