This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. MRI provides a noninvasive method to characterize and quantify atrophy in the brain resulting from biochemical changes in the early stages of neurodegeneration. These studies will be used to determine and validate MRI methods for detection of neurodegeneration. A fluid-attenuated T1p MRI pulse sequence was developed and utilized to measure T1p in the brain of an Alzheimers disease (AD) patient and two age-matched healthy volunteers.
