This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Individuals with HIV-1 infection demonstrate an increased risk for heart attach. Endothelial cell progenitor cells are cells produced by bone marrow to help repair blood vessels. A reduction in the number and function of these cells have been linked to an increased risk of heart attach. The purpose of this study is to determine whether endothelial progenitor cells are reduced in individuals with HIV-1 infection.
