英文摘要
PROJECT SUMMARY
Core B (Biospecimen Procurement & Utilization Core) will serve as the biospecimen and pathology shared
resource core for the NYU Cancer Health Disparities (CHD) SPORE. The goal of Core B is to foster translational
research on CHD, by providing all NYU CHD SPORE investigators—including research project co-leaders and
Developmental Research Program (DRP) awardees—with 1) access to high-quality biospecimens, linked to
prospectively collected clinical and pathological data; and 2) innovative services that promote the aims of these
projects. To meet the specific needs of the NYU CHD SPORE, Core B places a particular emphasis on collection
of biospecimens from racial/ethnic minority populations, including African Americans, Asians, and
Hispanics/Latinos.
Core B is designed to coordinate the procurement and processing of human biospecimens, including tissue,
blood, oral wash samples, and stool, for the NYU CHD SPORE. Core B will improve efficiencies of operations of
the NYU CHD SPORE by also serving as the central NYU CHD SPORE Biorepository Database for the
development, annotation, and maintenance of this human cancer biospecimen resource, including linkage of
specimens with pre-analytical parameters and pathological, clinical, and family history data. Furthermore, in
preparation of biospecimens for downstream project-specific analyses, Core B will provide standardized services
for the NYU CHD SPORE, including microdissection, immunohistochemistry, extraction of nucleic acids for
sequencing, and the disaggregation of tissues into cellular components, for immunophenotyping. Through a
governance committee, Core B will also provide oversight of SPORE biospecimen use. Building on the
infrastructure of the NYU Food and Microbiome Longitudinal Investigation (FAMiLI) multi-ethnic community
cohort and extensive support from NYULH, Core B will provide resources and stimulate collaborations within the
NYU CHD SPORE community as well as with outside collaborators, including other currently active SPOREs.
Given the considerable translational research infrastructure and resources at NYU, Core B personnel will also
work closely with the Administrative Core to ensure the most efficient use of institutional resources without
duplicating efforts. Overall, Core B will provide high quality, annotated biospecimens to all SPORE studies to
support the NYU CHD SPORE’s mission to increase orodigestive tract cancer health equity by identifying,
understanding, and controlling the microbiota related to these diseases.
