Pulsed laser with OPO

The study of reaction mechanisms requires pulsed sources for the generation of intermediates. The laser described in this proposal will be used to generate the chemical species that will be then studied using fast spectroscopy. It will complement existing excimer lasers in providing adequate wavelength flexibility. The type of laser requested, incorporating an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) allows wavelength flexibility; at present OPO systems offer an easier and more reliable source than dye lasers (widely used in the past).  This is an essential tool for the study of many reaction mechanisms, as well as nanomaterials, an area emphasized in our current research. These tools will allow the selective excitation of nanomaterials, such as metal nanoparticles.
