Storage and analysis of image and video data

With the success of recent computer vision research on visual object recognition, 3D scene reconstruction from multiple views and video-based tracking of complex objects such as people, modern computer vision algorithms are now being applied to ever larger collections of image and video data.  At the University of Toronto we are embarking on several new projects that  entail vast amounts of image and video data, which far outstrips the storage and processing capabilities of our shared research facility.  We have specialized equipment to begin capturing high resolution images, digial video, and we are also downloading vast amounts of data from the world wide web. We are now applying for new data storage facilities and computers to enable new projects on object recognition, scene reconstruction, video analysis, and high resolution digital photography.
