英文摘要
The goal of my research program is to advance fundamental knowledge of nanoengineering of III-V quantum semiconductor surfaces and interfaces. This will allow for the exploration of innovative technologies of rapid and accurate photonic biosensing based on monolithically integrated (miniaturized) biophotonic devices. My program aims at the development of a robust biosensor technology that would be attractive and acceptable for rapid detection of selected viral and bacterial pathogens in the clinical or medical doctor's office environments. As such, the goal is not to seek a record sensitive transducer, but rather determine conditions that would allow for the construction of a highly accurate biosensor. To achieve this goal, I will take advantage of the photoluminescence and surface plasmon resonance spectroscopies that provide an excellent platform for the study of surface phenomena and surface-based biosensing. The first axis of the proposed research is oriented on the fundamental study of biofunctionalization of GaAs surfaces with thiols and peptides. The second axis addresses the development of an 'orthogonal biosensor' that is based on aptamer nanotechnology and quantum well SPR biochips fabricated in my laboratory.
