The prodigy cryoprobe, requested here will support all research programs in the environmental Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) center (University of Toronto). This includes programs focusing on soil structure, soil remediation, global warming, aquatic contaminant transport, carbon cycling and sustainable agriculture. The technology requested will be used 24/7 and provides a 3 fold increase in sensitivity (or a corresponding 9 fold time saving) over a conventional room temperature NMR probes. The technology will impact all programs, permitting unprecedented detection of new compounds/bonds/interactions and/or increasing the throughput of the center by nearly 10 times. The technology will have greatest impact in the early detection of sub-lethal exposure to environmental contaminants and how this impacts overall ecosystem health.
