英文摘要
The fields of genomics and proteomics have led to the discovery of molecular fingerprints of diseases. These breakthroughs offer the potential to detect and treat these diseases early, improving the quality of healthcare in Canada and around the world. There is one key missing piece: the technologies to take each patient's molecular fingerprint. Today, these technologies - known as molecular diagnostics - are costly, and can only be run in a centralized clinical lab. They are also prone to false positives. In this proposal, we will advance an innovative technology - one based on miniaturized, low-cost microchips - that will allow us to detect ovarian cancer earlier, more cheaply, and more rapidly. We will partner closely with Kalgene Pharmaceuticals. Kalgene is commercializing a test for ovarian cancer that will be performed in doctors' offices on all post-menopausal women. They urgently require a suitable device for both protein and nucleic acids analysis in unprocessed samples. As a result of this strategic project grant collaboration between researchers at UofT and scientists at Kalgene,
