Digital media is becoming an important aspect of people's everyday experiences with culture, information and learning. Television, the Internet, Intranets, and DVDs are few of the many examples where digital media is successfully used for entertainment, culture, information presentation, and education. People with disabilities, particularly those with sensory disabilities, have considerable difficulties accessing various media because there are often limited alternative methods and models for providing the information through other modalities. Having media in digital format offers the flexibility and bandwidth to allow for alternative representations of that same information.
