Thermoplastics materials play an important role in our everyday lives. Although polyethylene and polypropylene have a simple chemical structure, without these simple plastics we could not conceive the level of technology that we have today in transportation, communication, food, safety and healthcare. In the final applications these plastics are mixed with additives to reach a balance of performance and cost. Materials based on minerals, like talc and glass fiber, represent the most common type of material added to thermoplastics.
