This application seeks critical upgrades to existing flow cytometry infrastructure in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph. Our current FACSAria I cytometer has been a core instrument for the department since its installation in 2006. Due to rapid advances in the field of flow cytometry, the FACSAria I no longer meets standards for sample handling, containment and high-efficiency cell sorting. List price for a new instrument is $626,000; however, implementing a well-validated upgrade to the existing chassis converts the FACSAria I into a state-of-the-art FACSAria IIu at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.
