This technology pertains to biological effects observed in vivo and in vitro of a cyclic peptide extract obtained from flax oil. This extract may have major appeal in both animal and human health markets as natural health products, as there are demonstrated indications of anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic and anti-microbial activity. The University of Saskatchewan Industry Liaison Office (ILO) has completed a preliminary assessment and concluded there is protectable intellectual property and that there are promising commercialization opportunities in the companion animal natural health products market. This proposal is for a Market Assessment Plan to be performed by the ILO. The outcome of this market assessment study will be the foundation for a commercialization strategy, (license to an existing company or create a start-up company?). The study will also provide assistance in product development by supplying information on what attributes would improve the marketability of the end product (unique benefits, novel modes of action) and identify potential manufacturing and other commercialization partners in the nutraceutical companion animal markets and the animal feed industry. The researchers will apply for NSERC I2I Phase 1 funding to complete the comprehensive efficacy and toxicological studies for the biologically active materials. Availability of a market study is a requirement for this application to NSERC I2I.
