Grid capacity assessment for electric vehicle charging

A collaborated research project, Electric Mobility Adoption and Prediction (EMAP), has been launched by Hydro Ottawa in June 2013 to help inform the development of a successful electric vehicle (EV) deployment strategy for the Hydro Ottawa service area. The project is to analyze the degree to which EVs will penetrate the market in Ottawa and to determine the most effective approach for introducing and managing EV infrastructure to meet the anticipated needs of the drivers and of power suppliers and distributors. This proposed project is a part of the EMAP project and it aims to assess the grid capacity to service the demand for anticipated levels and patterns of EV charging. The grid assessment work is based on the company-provided data which identify and characterize early EV adopter communities within the City of Ottawa.
