英文摘要
This research aims at smoothly transferring the MCCC technology from gasoline engine catalytic converter to diesel engine aftertreatment system. Multi-Chamber Catalytic Converter (MCCC), which is proposed, patented, and fully owned by Vida Holdings Corp. Ltd., is a modification to the current catalytic converter design. Studies for gasoline engines from Vida Holdings have shown its tangible advantages in the removal of NOx, manufacture cost reduction, and fuel economy improvement. While MCCC technology demonstrated above advantages in gasoline engines, its application in diesel engine aftertreatment system, which is much more complex than that of the gasoline one, still needs to be comprehensively studied.
In diesel engines, the MCCC technology will be incorporated in the Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC). This modification will change the downstream chemical contents, pressure, and temperature conditions. Therefore, other aftertreatment components downstream DOC, including Diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reactor, need to be redesigned, optimized, and properly controlled. To achieve the optimal operations for the novel diesel aftertreatment system with MCCC, the research will be performed through MCCC design for diesel engines, aftertreatment system optimizations, modelling, and control.
The expected outcomes of this project are the novel and systematic technologies on design, optimization, and control for MCCC-based diesel engine aftertreatment system, benefiting the emission reduction, production cost reduction, and fuel economy (through back-pressure reduction). This will significantly extend the application of MCCC and strength the position of Vida Holdings Corp. Ltd. in automotive emission control innovations. This research will also greatly benefit the automotive sector in Canada and worldwide in emission reduction, fuel sustainability, and productions.
