ZincNyx Energy Solutions, Inc., a company dedicated to implement flow battery technology, is looking at renewable energy opportunities in Canadian remote communities under different climate conditions. ZincNyx has identified potential renewable energy business opportunities in off-grid remote sites of Canada. Although the financial and technical assessments are carried out by ZincNyx, they do not have the capabilities to perform the research at the potential sites to assess the technical feasibility of the project. ZincNyx is interested in starting research activity in the field to substitute diesel generators by reliable and renewable power generation. More than 175 communities in Northern Canada generate their own electricity off-grid using diesel-fuel generators. Approximately 100,000 persons reside in these communities, and have an average energy cost of $1.3 USD per kWh. ZincNyx is interested in reducing such costs by looking at the opportunities to increase the efficiency of the targeted systems and implement renewable energy technologies. The replacement of current power generation systems is nowadays a necessity. This project will initiate a long-term collaboration between ZincNyx and Dr. Walter Mérida's group at UBC.
