英文摘要
The windows of a dwelling or building are one of the major sources of energy loss for both heating and cooling. Durabuilt Windows & Doors Inc. is an Edmonton-based manufacturer of windows that continues to develop new products that address this problem. All window manufacturers in Canada are required to meet a CSA standard for pressure differential across the window to limit the amount of window movement, air loss and ingress of water. All new products are tested to meet this standard before CSA approval. This research project will introduce to Durabuilt new optical instrumentation based on stereo vision to determine the three-dimensional displacement of the window during testing. Based on digital image correlation (DIC), the instrumentation can be used to determine not only the displacement of the window but also the surface strains that are generated. This is important information to determine the limitations of a current window design and also provides important insight into future directions for the design of a window. The research and development work will design and build an optimised imaging system for the unique testing requirements of the window. The system will then be used to carry out an initial investigation into window performance to highlight both the performance of the optical instrumentation as well as provide detailed information on the window design. This work is seen as a fundamentally new direction for the design and testing of windows.
