Application of unmanned aerial system technology for construction project management

PCL is a group of independent, employee-owned construction companies across the United States, Canada and Australia which began in Canada in 1906 and operates in the civil infrastructure, heavy industrial and buildings markets. As a forward-thinking company, PCL is interested in exploring the integration of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology as an advanced technological construction project management tool to improve project monitoring, supervision quality and accuracy. SAIT Polytechnic proposes to work with PCL to investigate opportunities for the practical application of UAVs for data collection during construction, to integrate and improve design processes, construction management practices and the maintenance of buildings and structures. PCL with gain efficiencies as a result of this project, as well as the opportunity to engage in applied research alongside SAIT's School of Construction, specifically faculty and students of the Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management.
