Multi-rotor UAVs are finding their way into commercial use due to their ability to hover in place with applications in: inspecting infrastructure, monitoring purposes, and surveillance. Their safety is paramount as a result of their omni-presence in our everyday life. Extra safety measures need to be embedded in their autopilot to avoid crashing into people and/or sensitive infrastructure such as power towers and buildings. The focus of this research is to develop add-on features for MicroPilot's autopilots for controlled crash landing in case of rotor failures in Quadcopter UAVs.
