The Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT) is a world-class water research centre that openedits doors in 2002 and has continued to build on its capacity to offer top notch research and commercializationservices to the water and wastewater industry. The CAWT was created through investments from CFI andthe Ontario government in 2002 and in 2013 Fleming College received another $1.6M from CFI/ORF toenable the expansion and upgrading of laboratory infrastructure. This will enable the Centre to increase itsservices offered to the growing water industry both locally and provincially. Our advanced research facilitiesare comprised of outdoor research test cells and 20 ponds, an indoor research and testing facility, anenvironmental chamber, and an advanced analytical laboratory (soon to be ISO 17025 accredited).Applied research services offered include proof of concept; performance measurement and third partyverification; technology certifications; product and process applied research; engineering design; technologydevelopment; piloting and demonstration; and problem-solving. The CAWT has expertise in a wide range ofwater and wastewater technologies, platforms, and services. Small, medium, and large sized businesses arehelped with their applied research and innovation needs allowing them to become more competitive, expandtheir businesses, and achieve economic success as Canadian businesses in the water sector.
