Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food production sectors in the world, producing over half of the fish we consume. Originally developed as a means to enhance natural stocks, fish farming now provides direct and indirect economic benefits to many local and regional economies. As demand grows for high quality, locally farmed fish, the industry is constantly striving to improve feed conversion ratios (FCR), while decreasing mortality rates, controlling pathogens and optimizing production cycle times. Cole-Munro Food Groups ("Cole-Munro") is an Ontario based company and Canada's top rainbow trout/steelhead processing business and is looking at ways to yield better FCR values. This research is focused on evaluating the extent to which food formulations can produce improvements in FCR for rainbow trout in typical fish farm conditions, improving the market position and sales of Cole-Munro.
