英文摘要
Wearable electronic devices are an important driving force behind the recent development of the ''Internet of Things'', which connects the user with surrounding machines through Internet infrastructure for personalized healthcare. Materials and devices used in wearable electronics should combine functionality with robustness, low weight and reduced volume to optimize cost effectiveness. Our industrial partner HEXOSKIN develops unique and innovative wearable body sensors to record and organize personal health information and make it accessible to the user. To pursue this technology and maintain their market competitiveness, HEXOSKIN needs to significantly reduce costs, for example by reducing equipment weight and volume while increasing lifetime. In this project we propose to develop highly stretchable nanostructured oxide-based hybrid nanogenerators to power wearable technologies. This approach offers huge scientific, technological and economic potential, for example by permitting longer operation for real-time monitoring. Both the development and use of these smart materials and power sources in partnership with HEXOSKIN will strongly reinforce Canadian know-how in wearable device technology. This effort will lead to new ideas and IP, which can be exported worldwide, with expected economic impact for Canadian industry. High technology research is essential to develop a strong, diversified Canadian economy that is less dependent on natural resource extraction. In summary, this project will lead to: (i) DEVELOPING EXPERTISE and PROVIDING SEED TECHNOLOGY in nanomaterial-based devices, sensor fusion, quality analytics, and diagnostics, which are greatly relevant to various Canadian industries; (ii) TRAINING HIGHLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL who will be in high demand from both academia and industry, and who can make educated decisions on future industrial needs; (iii) KEEPING ABREAST OF DEVELOPMENTS in this rapidly expanding field by being effectively networked nationally and internationally; (iv) PLACING Canada ON THE MAP in the field of advanced power devices for wearable applications, with the potential to become a key player.
