Nanophotonics aims at controling photons to perform a variety of functions varying from optical control to the development of nanostructured surfaces with the ultimate goal to control the properties of light such as its propagation direction, its polarization and its phase. The proposed research involves the design, the fabrication and the application of plasmonic platforms for a variety of applications ranging from high-spatial resolution spectroscopy, highly sensisitive spectroscopy (down to the single molecule level) to the detection of specific biological processes such as the release of neuroreceptor or the detection of toxins. Using advanced nanofabrication methods together with state-of-the-art spectroscopy imaging technique, the proposed research aims at providing new knowledge on new nanomaterials and biological processes.
