The number of seniors in Canada is growing rapidly. In 2031, persons older than 65 years of age will represent 25% of the Canadian population. Understanding the cognitive and brain changes that occur during aging is thus critically important. Remarkably, some older adults are more resistant to brain aging. Dr. Belleville wants to understand how and why this occurs. Her work will contribute to the understanding of how memory and the brain change and adapt with age, and will open ways to novel prevention strategies for older Canadians who are concerned about their cognitive health.
