In this collaborative project between the University of Toronto and BD, we will develop new polymer-based fluorophores for enhanced multicolour flow cytometry. Breakthroughs in polymer design will lead to new world-wide product lines for BD. BD is widely regarded as a leader in the design and commercialization of fluorophores for multicolour flow cytometry and already has several successful product lines, including the Brilliant VioletTM and Brilliant UVTM fluorophores, considered market leaders. The Seferos group has deep expertise in the synthesis and study of semiconducting polymers, polymer photophysics, and polymer characterization techniques, including with materials relevant to the present proposal. This partnership is thus ideally poised to make significant breakthroughs in fluorophore design for enhanced multicolour flow cytometry.
