项目摘要
Drugs based on mAbs play an indispensable role in biopharmaceutical industry in aspects of therapeutic and market potentials. According to a recent publication, mAbs also show promising results in the treatment of COVID-19. Increasing the production capacity of mAb manufacturing processes is immediately necessary due to the explosive growth in mAb market. Replacing the current batch processes by continuous manufacturing processes is recognized as the solution to address the explosive market needs. As we move towards continuous manufacturing in (bio)pharmaceutical, processes with frequent switching operations become more and more common. When to perform the switching between the subprocesses is critical in ensuring product quality and process profitability. The continuous manufacturing of mAb is a representative such process and has attracted much research attention. The proposed project focuses on the optimal control aspect of continuous mAb manufacturing and addresses a particular issue in mAb manufacturing, which has received little attention. Canada is an active and competitive contributor to the development of high capacity mAb manufacturing processes. This project will (a) further enhance the competitiveness of Canada in biopharmaceutical industry, (b) train highly qualified personnel (HQP) that have interdisciplinary backgrounds in biopharmaceutical and control engineering, and (c) create more job opportunities in Quartic.ai in the near future.
