An Investigation into views of faculty members on learning motivation and decline of ability of university students

为了调查教职员工对大学生能力下降和学习热情下降的看法，我们在日本全国范围内对11481名大学教师进行了大规模的问卷调查。本次调查获得的主要结果如下。1)能力的下降得到了普遍的认可，尤其是私立大学的成员。2)缺乏基本能力、自主性和逻辑思维能力。此外，据观察，为了有效地在大学学习，在中学教育中学习外语和日语的必要性得到了高度认可，这与1992年对大学教师进行的一项调查的结果几乎相同。调查还发现，日本大学教职员工普遍认为，增加逻辑思维能力、探究性思维能力、写作能力和构思能力不是学生自己能学到的。除了上述调查外，我们还对大学和中学日语词汇使用下降的情况进行了调查。此外，我们还报道了一项关于学生自愿决定毕业论文题目的调查。

In order to investigate views of faculty members on the decline of university students' abilities and eagerness for study, We conducted a large-scale questionnaire-type survey on 11,481 university teachers throughout Japan. The main results obtained in this survey was as follows. 1) The decline of ability was generally recognized, in particular, by the members of the private universities. 2) Lacks of fundamental ability, autonomy, and logical thinking was highly observed. Moreover, 3) it was observed that in order to study efficiently at universities, necessity to learn foreign language, Japanese language at secondary education was highly recognized, which was almost the same as the results at a survey performed to university teachers in 1992. It was also found necessary that adding to ability of logical thinking, inquiring mind, writing and conceiving ability were considered not to be acquired by students themselves, although necessity for students to acquire those ability was recognized highly by the faculty members of universities in Japan.In addition to the survey mentioned above, we also have done the survey investigating into the decline of usage of Japanese words not only in universities but also in high and middle schools. Further, we also reported a survey investigation the decline of Voluntariness to decide the topics of graduation paper by students themselves.
