Study on fostering the competency of making decisions by using mathematics in the social context

本研究的目的是培养日本学生的“运用数学进行决策的能力”。这意味着分析和解释情况，并根据数学证据做出决策。我们确定了一个基于数学的判断过程，评估了日本学生的能力，并制定了相应的水平。此外，本研究亦发展出一套由过程技能、数学内容、数学支援工具、社会价值观及与其他学生互动所组成的课程架构。此外，我们还在几所小学、初中和高中教授了11节课，并在之后实证检验了其有效性。

The purpose of this study was to foster “the competency of making decisions by using mathematics” among the students in Japan. This means analyzing and interpreting a situation, and making decision based on mathematical evidence. We identified a math-based judgment process, assessed the competency of the Japanese students, and developed levels of that. In addition, we developed a lesson framework that was composed of process skills, mathematical contents, mathematical support tool of choice, social values, and interaction with other students. Also, we taught eleven lessons in several elementary, junior and senior high schools, and afterwards examined the effectiveness empirically.
