Grafoid Inc.,
The research team at St. Lawrence College and Grafoid Inc. of Kingston Ontario, have developed a partnership to assess the effectiveness of their Compact Filtration System as a novel system for the treatment of residential greywater for re-use.
Every day we are using water as an essential component of life. However, the availability of freshwater on Earth is steadily decreasing. Water is becoming a new "blue gold". Greywater treatment and reuse is typically associated with regions facing water shortages. The technical approach to greywater treatment in the commercial and residential buildings landscape involves capturing used water from fixtures such as the showers, bath, and laundry machine to subsequently collect and treat that water to attain the NSF/ANSI 350 standard for residential (Class R) and commercial (Class C) reuse in flushing of toilets.
Grafoid Inc., a leader in the development of graphene solutions, has been focused on addressing the reduction of water discharge from residential sources to municipal treatment plants. The company intends to use the research results and partner with real-estate developers and municipalities to establish point of entry, or in this case, point of exit greywater treatment with the intent to recycle and re-use it where applicable. This project aims to look at the addition of upstream components such as electro-coagulation and electro-oxidation to the current proprietary treatment system to assess this new solution's efficacy in treating residential greywaters.
This joint research project will focus on the efficacy of the Compact Filtration System with additional upstream components at treating residential greywater containing specific parameters such as fats, oils and greases and comparing against the established NSF/ANSI 350 standard for greywater re-use. With the results of this project, Grafoid will be in a position to revolutionize the greywater treatment sector and assist real-estate developers and municipality alike in moving forward in achieving more sustainable growth.
