The modelling of mechanical manufacturing processes usually leads to complex nonlinear problem formulations, which include the frictional contact between various solids as well as the coupling of several physical quantities like temperature and deformation. Their discretization by means of the FEM leads to huge and difficult to solve discrete problems. To carry out sufficiently accurate simulations in an apropriate run-time, various methods are utilized that reduce both the number of unknowns and the required computing time. Within the framework of this research project mesh-, and trialspace-adaptive techniques are considered in case of the specific deep-hole drilling process. Beyond that the focus is on the development of adjusted solving methods for the algebraic system and the efficient implementation of the mentioned techniques by means of "High-Performance-Computing" . In the first two phases, the work was concentrated on the short time process simulation of the deep-hole drilling process. Because of the increased workpiece complexity, the application of the above mentioned efficiency enhancing techniques to the long time process simulation comes to the fore.
