本研究は、主に米国や台湾の公開公文書や中国の公刊史料、関係者の日記やオーラルヒストリーを利用し、米中国交正常化後の中国の対台湾「平和統一」政策と、米中、米台間の交渉内容を紐解き、それらが1980年代以降の米中台関係の構造をどのように変化させたのかを分析するものである。2022年度は、1970年代を通じて中国・台湾間の外交闘争がどのように展開していったのかについてまとめ、それが米中国交正常化や米華断交、さらに中国側の帰結としては1979年以降の「平和統一」政策の展開にどのように繋がったのかに関する研究を続けた。2021年度に台湾で行った史料調査やインタビューの成果を吟味しつつ、これまで中国、台湾、米国などにて収集した中国共産党の内部史料と照合しながら、1980年代に「平和統一」政策が打ち出された背景を、国際環境や国内政治情勢との連関に注目しながらまとめた。2022年度は、新たな史料調査を行うことができなかったので、これまでの収集史料をまとめ、各種研究会や学会で報告し、論文発表に向けてブラッシュアップすることに注力した。まず、1970年代を通じて、中国と台湾の間の外交闘争における力関係が徐々に変化し、闘争の担い手や論点も相互に作用しあいながら変化していったことについて、特にアジア太平洋地域での外交闘争に焦点を当てて分析した。また、米中国交正常化のプロセスについては、これまでに収集した史料と先行研究を突き合わせて、蒋経国を中心とする台湾側の対応や米台間の交渉について新たな分析を行い、その経過を学会にて報告した。さらに、こうした研究の副産物として、1970年代に形成された国際社会における「一つの中国」レジーム（「1972年体制」などとも呼ばれている）の今日的意味と問題点に関して、複数の論説文を発表し、講演や学会報告を行った。

This study mainly focuses on the use of American and Taiwan's public documents, China's public journal historical materials, and the diary of its relations with Taiwan. After the normalization of diplomatic relations between America and China, China's policy of "peaceful reunification" toward Taiwan, the contents of the diplomatic relations between America and China, and between America and Taiwan have been analyzed since the 1980s. In 2022, the diplomatic dispute between China and Taiwan began in the 1970s, and the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and the breaking of diplomatic relations between China and China began in 1979. In 2021, Taiwan's historical data survey, the achievements of Taiwan's travel, the collection of China, Taiwan and the United States, the internal historical data of the Communist Party of China, the background of the "peaceful reunification" policy in the 1980s, the international environment, the domestic political situation and the relationship between them were collected.
