2022年度はまず4月28日から5月8日間に小浜貝塚の発掘調査を実施した。トレンチを３箇所に設定し、それぞれ第１トレンチ、第２及び第３トレンチとし、この３つのトレンチを中心に発掘調査を行った。そのうち、第１トレンチは撹乱を受けていたので第２と３トレンチを中心に調査を行なった。小浜貝塚は砂丘に位置するが、今回の発掘調査は砂丘の上面からではなく、端部斜面の発掘調査を実施した。その結果第２トレンチからは曽畑土器を１片回収したが、弥生及び古墳と思われる層からは夥しい量の貝を含む貝層のみが確認された。第3トレンチからは小規模な発掘面積ではあったが、オオツノハタが多く検出され、さらに覆石土壙墓を想像させる遺構と思われるものが検出された。しかし、発掘期間中に第３トレンチを完掘することはできなかった。発掘調査と同時にそれぞれの研究者は放射化分析、土器脂肪酸分析、脊椎動物遺体、貝類遺体、古環境復元のための貝類のサンプリング、石器付着デンプン粒分析のための石器のサンプリング及びフローテーションのための土壌サンプリングを行なった。上記の期間において第３トレンチを完掘できなかったことから、8月7日から17日にかけてこのトレンチを完掘する目的で発掘調査を実施した。今回も同様にオオツタノハや弥生・古墳時代相当期の土器を検出することができた。発掘調査と同時に上記期間にサンプリングした土壌のフローテーション処理を行なった。また古人骨のサンプリングも試みられた。さらに今回もフローテーションのために土壌をサンプリングした。今回無事完掘することはできたが発掘期間最終日にこのトレンチが撹乱を受けていることが判明した。それゆえ来年度は砂丘端部ではなく、上面から発掘調査を行う予定である。これらの発掘調査調査やサンプリングとは別の日程で土器圧痕の調査も実施した。
