今年度は、熊本大学考古学研究室の発掘調査に参加し、沖縄弥生〜平安並行期の遺跡であるナガラバル東貝塚(6〜8世紀)から植物遺体を検出するために土壌サンプルを採取した。コラムから24リットル、第三層から48リットルの計72リットルの土壌をフローテーション処理した。その結果、42.34グラムの浮游物が回収された。目的とする植物遺体は計49片(内2片のみ完形)検出されたが、そのうち2片は不明種子、24片は同定不可能な炭化種子破片であった。しかしながら、沖縄貝塚時代後期および沖縄先史時代を理解するうえで大変貴重な植物遺体を検出することができた。すなわち、全て破片であるが、イネの穎果4片およびイネ籾17片を回収した。これらの植物遺体は、琉球列島最古のイネとなる。昨年度まで知られていた最古のイネが那崎原遺跡出土のもので、年代が8〜10世紀であるので、今回の調査結果は沖縄におけるイネの存在が、さらに数世紀古くなったことを示すものである。しかしながら、那崎原遺跡とは異なり、ナガラバル東貝塚の人たちが農耕を営んでいたという積極的な証拠を得ることは出来なかった。おそらく、彼らは交易によってイネを入手したものと考えられる。また、昨年度からの継続研究として、前原遺跡(縄文後期)、用見崎遺跡(弥生〜平安並行期)、および北谷グスクから回収された植物遺体を分類・同定している。まだ、同定が充分に実施されていないが、沖縄先史時代における植物職利用および農耕の開始期がようやく見えてきたような気がする。

This year, Kumamoto University's Research Institute participated in the excavation and investigation of the ruins of the Okiyori ~ Heian period. The remains of plants were recovered from the 6th to 8th centuries. The third layer is 48 layers, and the fourth layer is 72 layers. The results showed that 42.34 species of plankton were recovered. There are 49 pieces of plant remains (2 pieces of perfect shape), 2 pieces of unknown seeds and 24 pieces of impossible carbonized seeds. The late period of the Okibuka era and the early period of the Okibuka era are understood as the discovery of valuable plant remains. 4 pieces of rice and 17 pieces of rice. The remains of plants are the oldest in the Ryukyu Islands. Last year, we learned that the most ancient ruins were unearthed in the 8th to 10th centuries. In the past year, we have studied the remains of plants in the past year, studied the remains of Maehara (later period of the text), studied the remains of Umizaki (Yayoi ~ Heian period), and studied the remains of plants in the past year. The period of plant utilization and the beginning of farming in the pre-historical period were fully implemented.
