本研究は「民主政アテナイの演説文化：法廷における実践的修辞戦略に関する総合的研究」を基課題とし、その成果を海外の専門研究者とともに多角的に分析し、更なる発展を目指す。研究全体として、古典期アテナイの演説文化の歴史的特性を明らかにし、アテナイ民主政像を構築し直すことを目標とする。基課題では、法廷弁論の修辞技法に注目し、史・法・文の知見を総合して如何なる技法が説得に用いられたのかを精緻に分析し、歴史的特性の解明に努めた。メンバー各自が研究を進め、著書・論文を発表した他、国際学会を開催して口頭発表、意見交換を行なった。その成果は国際共著論文集として発表すべく準備中である。本国際共同研究では、主に法廷弁論の修辞技法と他の弁論の修辞技法との比較研究を行う。ジャンルの差異を確認し法廷弁論の特性を明確化すること、類似性・影響関係を分析して民主政アテナイの演説文化全体の特性を明らかにすることを目的とする。2022年度は、後期に渡英し、Royal Holloway, University of Londonを拠点として自身の研究を進めるとともに、研究者との意見交換を重ねた。上記国際共著論文集を発行するための意見交換を重ね、出版準備を進めた他、ポーランド（カトヴィツェ、クラクフ）で招待講演を行い、民会・法廷で野次の言及方法に差異があること、見物人・観衆の存在を演説者が巧みに利用していたことについて、講演を行なった。これらはいずれも近く論文になる予定である。また法廷・民会での演説の特性を考えるため、喜劇中に描写された演説についても検討が必要であると考え、古喜劇を中心に関係文献を収集し、先行研究・関連史料の分析を進めた。これにより喜劇でも法廷や民会演説に近い表現が、劇の設定に合わせ、巧みに用いられていたことが明らかとなった。これについては2023年に行われる国際学会で発表予定である。
