本研究は、古典期（前5世紀から前4世紀）の民主政アテナイにおいて発達した実践的な「演説文化」に対し、同時代に進展した制度や社会の「文書化」傾向が及ぼした影響を解明するものである。研究対象は、法廷及び民会で実際に披露されることを想定して制作されたと考えられる演説を主対象とする。それらの演説の中で文書（証言、証拠文書、法や決議等）が利用される際、如何に言及され、如何なる修辞的機能を付与されていたのかについて、体系的に整理するとともに、アテナイ社会及び法制度の変化がこれらに及ぼしていた影響を明らかにするものである。以上の作業は、アテナイ民主政を熟議民主主義の一形態と捉え、演説文化という新しい観点から古代民主政像を書き換える研究の一環をなすものである。2022年度も引き続き、先行研究の分析に努めると同時に、関連する史料群の分析を進めた。先行研究については科研費を利用して必要な文献の収集を行なった。とりわけ、これまで手薄であったフランス語圏の先行研究を入手し、検討することができた。また史料分析に関しては、デモステネスの民会演説や、デモステネスやアイスキネスの法廷弁論、とりわけ公的訴訟に関する弁論を中心に扱い、それらの演説の中で読み上げられる書簡や決議について分析を進めた。その結果、演説中に書簡や決議文を担当者に読み上げ「させる」ことにより、聴衆の強い感情が喚起されることが期待されていたこと、また過度な反感を避ける効果などを期待して利用されていた可能性などが明らかとなった。この点については、さらに他の文書利用に関する分析も進めた上で、今後、論文として発表する予定である。さらにこれと関連して、古典期アテナイの演説に対する野次・歓声の関する論文を発表し、さらに関連する古代ギリシアにおける外交と文化についての論文を執筆した。
