项目摘要

本研究は、近世後期（18世紀後半～19世紀末）における琉球国の社会経済史の研究として、人口・貨幣・物価についての検討を目的とする。以上のテーマは1980年代以降に目覚ましい進展を見せた近世琉球の研究史において、十分に議論が尽くされていない一方で、無批判に先行研究の祖述が繰り返されている分野である。本年度は博士論文を提出するため、これまでの研究の総括をおこなった。テーマごとにまとめると、以下のようになる。人口については、近世琉球の人口史料と近代沖縄の統計資料を接続することで、近世後期の人口動態に大きな矛盾があることを指摘した。これまでの研究で総人口が減少していたと見られていた史料からは、女性、沖縄島の百姓、身売り人など多くの人が欠失していたことを明らかにした。また、人口推移には地域性が存在しており、増加傾向の沖縄島と減少・停滞傾向にある離島地域という特徴を見出すことができた。貨幣については、従来の金属貨幣に限定されない貨幣史論をまとめた。また、17～19世紀にかけての王府による銭貨政策の変遷を検討することで、自国鋳造銭貨を断念するに至った背景を分析した。物価については、研究の前提として、①物価史料の性格と王府の物価政策、長期的な推移、②「諸物代付帳」と仮定代、③「文替り」を検討した。また、石垣市立八重山博物館で家譜資料を調査し、今後の離島地域における人口研究における基礎的なデータの取集をおこなった。

The purpose of this study is to study the social history of Ryukyu in the late modern period (from the second half of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century). The progress of the research on Ryukyu since the 1980s has been discussed in detail. Currency history is a topic of discussion. From the 17th century to the 19th century, the author analyzed the changes of the government's policy on goods and services. This paper discusses the relationship between material and historical materials, the relationship between material and historical policies, the long-term evolution, the relationship between material and historical policies, and the relationship between material and historical policies. The Ishigaki City Yaeyama Museum is a collection of genealogical data for future population research in outlying islands.
