项目摘要

本年度は近世中期の日本の儒学における音楽思想に焦点を当て、とくに従来の研究では荻生徂徠一門の礼楽観に関心が集中しがちであるという状況に鑑み、新井白石を主たる考察対象とした。新井白石が雅楽を重視したことは知られているものの、白石の音楽面に特化した先行研究は乏しく、まずは基礎的な資料調査が要された。関連する著作の書誌調査などを経て、雅楽にかかわる白石の遺稿に着目することとし、以下の考察を行った。まず「楽舞考序」（『白石先生遺文拾遺』所収）から晩年の白石における礼楽の「楽」や雅楽にたいする態度が窺えたため、これと徳川家宣に上呈された著作『進呈之案』『楽対』とを照らし合わせつつ、「楽」とのかかわりにおける雅楽の思想的位置づけを検討した。また白石の書簡から垣間見えた彼自身の雅楽の実践経験や雅楽の理論にたいする態度を確認したうえで、雅楽の理論にかかわる言説である「律呂説」（『白石先生遺文』所収）について、書誌や内容の検討（雅楽譜にもとづく音組織の分析を含む）からその位置づけを検討した。史料の不足もあり「律呂説」が白石自身の見解であると断定はできないものの、その内容は文献に拠る知識にとどまらない（雅楽の演奏経験を伴うような）音楽理論の知見が要されることを確認した。このほか、猿楽（能）にかんする著作として知られる『俳優考』の内容の一部について、これまで検討してきた雅楽や「楽」にかかわる言説とあわせて検討した。総じて新井白石の音楽思想をまとめ上げるには至らなかったが、これまでほとんど明らかにされてこなかった白石自身の雅楽観について理解を一歩進めると同時に、雅楽の理論的研究を行っていた可能性などを含め、その重要性についても再確認するに至った。今後は引き続き新井白石の音楽思想にかんする調査を進めたうえで、荻生徂徠との比較なども行いつつ、近世中期の音楽思想の特徴を明らかにしていく予定である。
