项目摘要

今年度（2022年度）は、昨年度までに収集した各種の歴史資料の分析にもとづいて、2本の雑誌論文（いずれも査読付き）と、一件の学会報告、また図書（共著）の執筆からなる研究成果の公表をおこなった。一本目の雑誌論文（“Edo-Tokyo and the Meiji Revolution）は、都市史分野で著名な国際雑誌に掲載されたものである。海外（おもに英語圏）の日本史研究は戦後の近代化論の影響が強く，日本における状況以上に明治維新期に関する研究、ひいては歴史叙述が限られるなか、近代移行期の江戸-東京に関する都市史研究の内容を，海外の先行業績との関連で位置づけなおすとともに，追加の歴史資料にもとづく指摘なども交えながら論じたものである。二本目の雑誌論文（「明治初年東京における武家地処分と鉄道敷設事業」）は、日本列島初の長距離鉄道である, 明治３年（1870）開始の東京新橋-横浜間の鉄道敷設事業について，あらたに都市史的な観点から考察した研究である。事業を主管する民部省の拠点形成の動きに加えて，対象地域の性格（東京府内においてはその大半が大名藩邸で構成）が，当該事業の中身を左右する要素であったことや，これまで不明確だった明治初年東京の武家地処分の実態などについても具体的に明らかにした。なお、一件の学会報告（「「高輪築堤」の誕生に関する一考察）は、この二本目の雑誌論文の成果の一部を先行して公表したものである。他方、共著の図書（『日本近・現代史研究入門』）は、日本近代史・現代史研究に取り組むにあたっての基礎を解説する研究書である。その中で、申請者は、戦後に台頭した日本近代および現代都市史研究のうち，とくに近代に関する研究史を，主要先行業績の成果と課題，さらに今後の研究展開の方向性などについても指摘しつつ、明らかにした。
