项目摘要

日本手話を第一言語とするろう者は、公教育において第一言語による十分な教育を受けられなかった状況のもと、手話通訳付き講演会での学習に期待を寄せる。しかしながら、学術的講演会において手話通訳が十分に機能しない現実がある。手話通訳者の技量もさることながら、学術的講演会という特殊な状況により手話通訳者の能力が十分に発揮できていない可能性もある。本研究では、手話通訳付き学術的講演会を基に3名の手話通訳分析者を中心に手話通訳に関する課題分析を行った。課題分析に関する討議では、手話通訳者個々の翻訳技術以外に、学術的な側面からくる専門性や講演会という特徴からくる公共性といった学術的講演会という特性から生じる手話通訳行為全体の課題も多く挙げられた。それらは、(1)通訳環境の整備の課題(2)複数の人々の前に立つということからの課題(3)手話通訳者自身からの情報発信の課題(4)パワーポイント等を使用するといった特殊な環境からくる課題(5)専門用語についての対応の課題という5つに整理することができた。日本語の語彙に対応する手話語彙を創作する活動が行われている現状の中、ともすれば、学術的講演会における手話通訳についても、手話の専門用語に対する手話通訳者の知識や技量についての検証や議論に陥りやすい。本研究では、学術的講演会という環境の特性をふまえた分析を行うことで、手話通訳者のみの課題から主催者や講師も含めた手話通訳の活用に携わる全ての者が解決すべき課題へと、分析の視点を広げている。課題を整理することは、今後、学術的な手話通訳に携わる通訳者の養成にとどまらず、手話通訳を活用する主催者や講師側が何を留意すれば、手話通訳を十分に活用できるのかということへの指針ともなるであろう。日本手話を第一言語とするろう者が、手話通訳を用いて多くの知識を得ることができる社会の実現の一助となれば幸いである。
