当研究では、現象学研究を通して得られた、媒介性に依拠する主体性の概念を基礎に据えて、現代の政治哲学のアポリアを考察し直す。このような主体は自律しておらず、他者との関係に巻き込まれているが、まさにこの巻き込まれ、他者との関係の基礎として機能することになる。他者からの訴えかけが、主体を構成するのであり、それゆえにそれに責任をもって答えることが自己の存立条件となる。このような観点から、まず第一に、デリダの脱構築やナンシーの共同体論を位置づけ直すことを試みた。彼らはしばしばポストモダンの思想家として分類されているが、懐疑主義に陥るわけではなく、新たな仕方で倫理の基盤を考察している。そして第二に、このような媒介性の概念に依拠して、応用倫理学的なテーマへの適用を行い、多文化主義、ボランティア論、ジェンダー論の座標軸の再構成を試みた。具体的には、ローティの自文化中心主義が多文化主義の論点を逸していること、ボランティア活動を近代批判的な活動として再評価すること、ジェンダー論において主体性の役割の再評価が必要であり、その点で社会構築主義的アプローチが重要であることについて考察を試みた。
