The research is focused on a new mode of knowledge production, which includes an expansion of academy-industry collaboration as an important aspect. The research makes use of bibliometric techniques to provide positive data showing such trends. Especially, the research is directed to a comparative analysis between Japan and France, where we try to analyze emergence of research network across sectors (academy, industry, public laboratories) and international research network. To analyze these positively, we develop a dataset of intersectoral, international coauthorship of research papers based on 'National Citation Report for Japan' which ISI provides.Major findings are as follows:1) USA is the biggest partner of research coljaboration of Japan. However, its share ofcoauthored papers with USA is decreasing year by year, while other countries are growing. Parallel with it, collaboration is moving from bilateral one to multilateral one.2) Research network among America, Europe and Asia-Oceania countries is growing.3) Among Japan-France research collaboration, academy-academy relationship account for the most part. However, collaboration across sectors is growing, so that collaboration is more diversified.4) Japan-France research collaboration is growing, accompanied with increase of domestic collaboration across sectors in both Japan and France.5) Japan-France collaboration shows a tendency to involve third countries.
