项目摘要

本研究は、15世紀末にイングランドでウィリアム・キャクストンが出版した『黄金伝説』について、「翻訳」、「編集」、「印刷」の観点から分析し、その成果をもとに「聖人伝の部」の前半部を校訂版として発表することを目指している。初年度である2022年度には、英訳版とフランス語版の底本の転写作業を中心に行い、校訂テクストの土台作りに注力した。研究代表者は、英訳原典であるキャクストン版の底本と定めたケンブリッジ大学図書館所蔵本について、研究協力者の支援を受けながら、他の現存本との比較校合を行い、異なる読みの記録を行った。具体的には、グラスゴー大学図書館とヘリフォード大聖堂図書館所蔵本との比較校合を始めた。当初グラスゴー大学図書館本は、Early English Books Onlineが提供するマイクロフィルムのデジタル画像を使用していたが、解像度が低く画質も悪いため、書誌学的な比較作業は中断せざるを得なかった。しかしコロナ禍による海外渡航制限が緩和したことで、2022年8月にイギリスでの調査が可能となり、研究代表者はグラスゴー大学図書館やヘリフォード大聖堂図書館など、イギリス国内の複数の図書館で原本調査とデジタル画像の取得を行うことができた。これにより、底本であるケンブリッジ大学図書館本と、その異刷を含むグラスゴー大学図書館所蔵本との比較校合に着手できた点は、今後の研究のために非常に大きな意義を持つ。研究分担者は、仏語原典の底本として使用する、15世紀刊本『黄金伝説』の大英図書館本と、関連する中世写本の現地調査を行った。2022年度は聖ゲルマヌスから聖クリュソストモスまでの転写を完了させ、当初の予定よりも進捗状況は順調である。また2022年夏には、レンヌの図書館が所蔵する『黄金伝説』の中世写本を閲覧し、仏訳版の15世紀刊本と関連する資料の調査を進めることができた。
