重点領域研究「日本語音声の韻律的特徴の研究とその教育に関する総合的研究」が、次年度から発足することとなった。この総合研究を円滑に推進し十分な成果をあげるための準備として、次のように会合を催し、また、しばしば会議を行って討議を重ねた。1 講演とシンポジウムの会 10月8日(土)於国立国語研究所、講演とシンポジウムの会「音声辞典の作成にむけて」を開催した。約250名の熱心な聴衆が参加し討議に加わった。2 総括班及び班長会議(2回) 7月14日於本郷会館、10月9日於国立国語研究所。方言音声の収録地点、収集材料、音声データベース化の範囲、音響分析の材料選定、予算等につき討議した。3 東京・放送班会議(2回) 9月6日於国立国語研究所、10月16日於弘前大学(国語学会の前日)音声収集と研究推進のための打ち合せ。4 東日本班会議(2回) 10月16日於弘前大学、1月8日於本郷会館、東日本班の音声収集地点と材料検討、研究推進のための打ち合せ。5 西日本会議(2回) 2月18日及び19日、於大阪私学会館、収集材料の検討及び研究推進のための打ち合せ。6 収集材料検討委員会会議(3回) 10月9日総括班会議後、於国立国語研究所、3月16日〜18日、於静岡大学、収集材料につき討議した。3月30日(予定)於東京大学、全国共通の収集材料を決定する。7 事務局会議(5回) 7月3日於大阪樟蔭女子大学、8月24日於同上、10月8日於国立国語研究所、11月19日於大阪私学会館、2月19日於同上、各会合のための準備会議、及び重点領域研究推進に関して事務局員の決定、仕事の分担、4月より各月発刊のニューズレターの検討。上記により日本語教育、国語教育に役立つための「日本語音声」の総合的研究を推進するべく十分な準備を行うことができた。
