与論島からの漁民の居住する移住集落において、夏期(8月〜9月)にのべ30日間の住み込み調査を行い、移住集落の民俗形成と同郷人組織「与論会」の役割について調査研究した。与論島出身者の同郷人組織である「与論会」をとおして、与論島民の移住過程、家族構成、漁業活動などの民俗資料について、複数の話者から詳細綿密な聞き取り調査を行うとともに、奄美群島に分散居住する与論島漁民の状況について聞き取り調査や漁業技術の参与観察などを行った。そして、これまで得られた各地の移住集落の民族と比較した。その結果、第1に、徳之島において追い込み網漁の経営を沖縄県の糸満漁民から継承することが移住の契機になっているのに対して、屋久島では在来のトビウオ漁へ優秀な技能者(潜水夫)として参加していくことが最初の移住の契機となり、さらに衰退過程にあった在来のトビウオ漁にかわる新漁法を開発したことにより移住を進行させたことがわかった。第2に、漁業活動の中心になりつつある移住第2世代、とくに移住地で成長した世代において、同郷人会というものが都市部ほどに機能しておらず、それにかわって、漁業者間、とくにトビウオ漁をとおしての移住地間のネットワークの重要性を認識するに至った。また、パーソナルコンピューターを利用して、聞き取った民俗資料を記録保存し、移住集落に関する各項目(与論島移住者の名前、生年月日、居住地、出身地、職業(漁業活動)、移住過程(生活史)、民俗、与論会活動、関係文献など)により整理して、作成途上にある「与論島出身漁民事績資料」の大幅な増補を行い、各地に分散している移住者関係資料を一括管理できるようにした。最後に、これまで移住者どうしの関係を中心にとらえてきたので、今後の研究計画としては、移住者と在来の漁業者との関係・交流が問題として提起される。
