Recently laser welding has been expected to connect metal parts especially titanium prosthetic devices.However, since there are several drawbacks such as the difficult quality control based on the operator's skill, the occurrence of irregular shrinkage during welding, and the high cost of the equipment, laser welding has not been popular in dental laboratory works in Japan yet.Even we understand precision casting is the most popular fabrication method of dental metallic prostheses, we believe we call reduce labor when fabricating parts of the prostheses individually followed by connecting together by laser welding.In this study we investigated this procedure to apply to fabricate the titanium framework for composites veneering of implant superstructure with combining numerically controlled wire electric discharge machining and laser welding experimentally developed.Excellent fit of the frameworks was achieved when applying the two-stage beam energy setting and the NC irradiating turn during welding based on the fundamental studies.We conclude laser welding is promising for applying dental prostheses especially under numerically controlled procedure, but we have to manage energy and irradiating path for the quality control.
