项目摘要

2003年6月、日本社会学史学会大会(於東北公益文科大)にて「明治期の社会:用例研究」と題した研究発表を行った。明治の社会学が対象としようとした「社会」なるものが、日常語においてどのように意味づけされていたのか、その意味がどのように変化していったのかを、当時の新聞における「社会」の用例パターンの大規模な収集と、その計量的な分析によって明らかにした。2004年3月現在、この知見に基づき、研究論文「明治期における社会と社会学:日本社会学成立の臨界」を執筆し、学会雑誌に投稿準備中である。この論文では、日常語としての「社会」との関連において、特に建部遯吾および遠藤隆吉が社会学を形成するに至った過程を明らかにする。2003年12月、建部遯吾『普通社会学』(Tongo Kakebe, General Sociology)の英訳を完了した。この本は儒学伝統と、オーギュスト・コントおよびハーバート・スペンサーの社会有機体進化論を統合した、明治の日本社会学第一世代の集大成である。この本の英訳版刊行は、西欧偏重と戦前軽視の傾向を持ってきた過去半世紀における日本社会学説史研究を、今後、非=日本語圏の研究者たちを巻き込みつつ再検討するために、貴重な基礎資料を提供することとなる。また、現在、深刻な疑義に曝されている「社会」や「公共性」といった諸観念を未来に向けて再生させるための有力な手がかりを提供することともなるだろう。2004年3月現在、研究協力者Suzanne K.Steinmetz(インディアナ大)とともに公刊に向けた最終的な調整に入っている。公刊は2004年9月を予定している。

June, 2003:"Meiji Society: Case Studies" presented at the Japan Society of Sociological History Conference (Tohoku Public Welfare University). Meiji sociology refers to the large-scale collection of "society" and the analysis of "measurement" in everyday language. March, 2004 Present, Research paper "Society and Sociology in Meiji Period: The Critical Point of the Establishment of Japanese Sociology" is written, and preparation for submission is underway. This paper discusses the relationship between daily life and sociology. December, 2003,"Tongo Kakebe, General Sociology" completed. The first generation of Japanese sociology in Meiji was integrated into the theory of evolution of social organisms. The English edition of this book has a tendency to focus on Western Europe in the past half century, and researchers in the future and non-Japanese language circles have a tendency to provide valuable basic data. The present, the profound doubt, the "society," the "publicity," the "future," the regeneration, the "power," the "supply." March 2004: Suzanne K.Steinmetz, a research collaborator, is now working on the final adjustment of the journal. The publication was scheduled for September 2004.
